Not to be confused with the character of the same name

Boosting is a recurring technique in the Cars series.

Description[]

Boosting temporarily allows the player to go faster, but they will soon run out of juice, and have to wait for it to refill. The move has hugely changed as the series went on.

Cars: The Video Game[]

Boosting is not available from the start of the game, but three segments will gradually be earned throughout story mode. Simply complete Boostin' with Fillmore, Rustbucket Race-O-Rama, and Delinquent Road Hazards. It works at its easiest and is the same for every car.

Cars: Mater-National Championship[]

The player starts with one boost segment, and will earn two more by completing Stadium Race 1 and Stadium Race 2. Each car has its own boost stat, with Lightning having the highest stat, and Luigi having the lowest. It also has been changed a bit, now taking a few seconds after use to recharge, and having additional sound effects to notify the player they have depleted their tank, and when it has fully refilled.

Cars: Race-O-Rama[]

Boosting is very similar, with the exception of that segments have been removed. The boost stat varies for each car, although it is never displayed in-game. Speedway Lightning has the highest, and Modified Chick Hicks has the lowest. Blue flames also are emitted from the car's pipes when using it. One significant change is that Powersliding now actually makes the boost fill up faster. In fact, while Powersliding, even while boosting at the same time, the car will actually gain more boost while using it.

Cars 2: The Video Game[]

Boosting now fills by performing other techniques rather than by patience, and instantly accelerates the car to their (rather very slow) top speed instead of having to accelerate. When the Boost is filled, the car can then perform another move called "In The Zone", where they continuously boost at an even faster speed and become invincible. There also is no longer a boost stat.

Cars: Fast as Lightning[]

Boosting is technically not in the game, but a move where the player spends a few diamonds to speed up mid-race is referred to as boosting.

Cars 3: Driven to Win[]

Boosting works exactly as it did in Cars 2: The Video Game.

Competitive Use[]

Boosting is best to use on straightaways, and to let fill up in areas with large amounts of turns. Try to avoid boosting when a sharp turn is directly ahead.

Trivia[]

  • Every game except Cars 3: Driven to Win has a cheat code that grants infinite boost.
    • In Cars: The Video Game, the player will be given 3 boost segments no matter how many they already have if they enter the cheat code.
    • In Cars 2: The Video Game, It isn't technically infinite, as it simply just makes the boost refill near instantly and without having to do anything, while in the other games, it simply never drains the meter.
  • In Rustbucket Race-O-Rama, the player actually has to finish 1st in order to win the boost segment, even though they can still progress in the story with only a 3rd place finish, meaning that it is possible to get the boost segment from Delinquent Road Hazards before getting the one from Rustbucket Race-O-Rama.
